6 August 1890

Dear Abraham,

It is with great fear and trepidation that I write to you with my findings concerning the small village of Whitby.

I have heard endless rumours of a secret gathering, whispers in the dark talk of people who think only of spreading horror and fear throughout the world.

These men have succumbed to the darkness in their hearts and their only pleasure is showing God fearing men like you and I their black arts, blasphemous etchings and scriptures, Hellish sounds and music and worst of all, the moving images captured with unholy machines known as cameras.

These people have at their command all the creatures of the underworld, demons, the undead, and even monsters from other worlds are at their bidding. Even more gruesome are the specialists of their group who have the power to turn mere mortals into these abhorrent beings, I’ve heard that such necromancers are held in high regard and are known as "special effects artists". I cannot imagine what would happen if these dark arts were passed onto others.

Even from the relative safety of my small room in the West Cliff hotel I feel I am being watched. I have promised myself safe passage out of here before the end of the year, the month of October draws closer and I fear for my sanity.

I shall find out what I dare, the mind is not made to witness such unholy things. Anyone wanting to enter Whitby during this "festival of horror" best do so at their own peril.

I remain as always your humble servant.

James Latimer
